Laser engraving metal is the most permanent and durable way of marking many metal materials. Mark bare and coated metallic surfaces for signs, frames, or other creative applications. Based on the type of metal you would like engraved, different processes will be used as seen below:
Treated Materials- Anodized, lacquered, or spray veneered
If the metal has been pre treated or coated the laser will engrave away this top coating to reveal the metal finish below. Different treated metals will produce different effects.
Bare Surface Metals
If engraving a non treated metal the CO2 laser will not mark the surface well. In this case we will either use the compound marking method or utilize the Fiber laser, which is designed to directly mark on uncoated metals. With the compound method, a chemical layer is sprayed onto the metal. When the laser comes in contact with the chemical it is fixed to the material resulting in permanent black marks.
